J. Rebecca Barden is a Professional Counseling Registered Intern (R2534) with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors & Therapists (OBLPCT) who works with adolescents and adults of all ages; individually, in groups, and in couple's therapy. She maintains a private practice in Oregon City, Oregon and is supervised by OBLPCT approved supervisor Ryan Melton (C1714).
Ms. Barden has over 28 years of experience working with learning-challenged youth and adults as a private language-arts tutor, and has worked with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma since 2005. She is a graduate of George Fox University specializing in attachment-based Emotion Focused therapy with a specialty in Trauma, has worked professionally as a community and college counselor, and has served as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients including veterans since 2012. Among her areas of expertise are trauma/PTSD, learning disability challenges, integration of spirituality/religion in counseling, grief & loss, self-esteem, mood and anxiety disorders, life transitions, assertiveness/boundaries, domestic violence/dating violence, sexual assault/rape, excessive or repressed emotions, and adults molested as children.
Ms. Barden completed her training for certification as a Humanistic Sandtray Therapist in 2013 from "Sandtray Steve" Armstrong, Ph.D., national and international trainer, certified supervisor, author, and graduate school professor. She is very passionate about this modality and creates some of own custom Sandtray figures from clay for her client's use.
In addition to being a strengths and attachment-focused therapist, Rebecca has presented at two national counseling conferences in regard to her research on integration of spirituality and religion in counseling, and on various aspects of trauma on college campuses and in the community. She has been a guest presenter since 2010 at the George Fox University Graduate Counseling program teaching aspects of using expressive arts with clients, and has presented information on healthy relationships, test anxiety, adjusting to college, and dance psychology at a local university. Ms. Barden presented her first 4 hour training in trauma for college counselors in February 2014.
