Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Amanda Milliren (she/her/hers). As a mental health counseling intern at Metamorphosis Counseling, I’m excited to provide a fresh, dedicated, and highly supportive space for you to begin your journey to better mental health. I believe that therapy should be accessible, grounded, and deeply human.

I come to this field with a diverse background, having previously worked within the forensic population and in drug and alcohol recovery. These experiences taught me that no matter where someone is starting from, there is always room for a metamorphosis. Today, I am passionate about expanding my horizons and helping people of all ages navigate the everyday challenges of anxiety, stress, and life’s many changes.

I love working with:

  • “First-timers”: If you’ve been curious about therapy but not sure where to begin, I provide a gentle, low-pressure introduction to the process.

  • Individuals in recovery: Drawing on my background in addiction services, I support those looking to maintain their sobriety and explore the “why” behind their habits.

  • The overwhelmed and anxious: Anyone navigating worry that won’t stop, daily stress, or burnout.

  • Those who aren’t sure what they need, but just need support: Anyone looking for a collaborative partner to help them build their toolkit for emotional resilience and clearer communication.

How I Help

Seeing an intern offers a unique advantage: you get the energy and up-to-date research of a fresh clinician, backed by the expertise of a seasoned supervisor. It’s like having two sets of eyes on your goals, ensuring you receive the most thoughtful and effective care possible.

I use an integrative approach that focuses on your individual needs. Because of my forensic and recovery background, I am particularly adept at helping clients look at the "big picture" of their lives without judgment. I provide a grounded, professional environment where we can work through the symptoms of anxiety or depression and start building a foundation of healthy, sustainable coping skills.

What it’s like in a session with me

In a session with me, you’ll find a steady and empathetic listener who isn't afraid to dive into the work with you. I focus on creating a "brave space" where you can be honest about your struggles and celebrated for your progress.

Because I have a smaller caseload than most established therapists, I am able to offer a high level of focus and flexibility to my clients. We’ll work together to identify the patterns that are making you feel stuck and practice new ways of responding to stress. You can expect a session that feels structured yet fluid—a place where you are truly heard and equipped to take your next steps with confidence.
