Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect with a therapist at Metamorphosis?

Where is your office located? I need directions to Metamorphosis Counseling!

We’re at 2222 Filmore Avenue, Suite 400, Erie PA 16506. See the photo above and look for the big address on the side to ensure you’re coming in the right door!

Directions:

  • Navigate to Peninsula Drive

  • Turn onto West 23rd Street (there’s a Country Fair at the corner, across from Green Prosthetics)

  • Turn left onto Filmore (after passing Napa Auto Parts, Parker’s Garage and Presque Isle Gun Shop)

  • We’re the first building on your left!

  • Our office is the first door on the right as you enter. Have a seat in our private waiting room, and your therapist will come out to greet you at your scheduled appointment time.

How can I pay for my sessions?

Metamorphosis Counseling is a fully paperless practice, therefore all payment is done within our client portal. We require a credit/debit card on file to proceed with treatment. We accept HSA/FSA cards as well! You don’t have to worry about keeping up on your payments - your card on file will be charged on the date of your session for your copayment amount.

How will I know if my chosen therapist is the right therapist for me?

  • You can get started by reviewing our therapist’s individual bios, but the best way to know for sure is to come in for a session. Most people have a good sense of whether or not their therapist is the right therapist for them within the first 1-3 sessions. Please feel free to ask your therapist any questions that come up, at any point throughout the process. At any point, if your therapist believes that they are not the best therapist to help you, they will let you know. If either of you feel this way, we will do our best to help you connect with someone who is a better fit.

Are you providing in-person or online therapy?

  • Metamorphosis therapists provide both in-person and online therapy.

  • In-person therapy is offered in Erie, PA.

  • Online therapy sessions take place via video call on our secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform, SimplePractice (similar to Zoom). Established clients are provided a link to use for each session.

Is online therapy right for me?

  • Teletherapy has many advantages - you don’t have to come to the office, which is convenient for many; it is just as effective as in person therapy for most people; it allows us to help more people across the state of PA; and it helps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 that could occur from in-person visits. However, it’s not right for everyone. Telehealth therapy works best for individuals with mild to moderate symptoms (meaning, not suicidal or in a crisis), are comfortable using technology, and who have a quiet, private place to have their sessions.

Who do you work with?

  • We work with individuals from across the lifespan, age 5 up to 105! Each therapist has their own population they love to work with most - check them out by clicking here.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

  • Once you’ve made a decision to begin working with a therapist, it’s understandable that you might be nervous about the process - this is normal and natural. You and your therapist will be working together to help you build a more meaningful, enriching life; ultimately, this work is led by you. Your therapist will never push you to do anything you do not want to or encourage you to do anything that they wouldn’t do themselves. Your therapist will not have answers to every concern, but they will always listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions, which can guide you in your work. Metamorphosis therapists will always provide unconditional respect and positive regard.

  • In your first session, you and your therapist will discuss your current concerns, your story, and what you would like to change. You and your therapist will also determine whether you are a good fit together, and build a therapeutic relationship with each other that will inform your journey to improved mental health. Your therapist will assist you in determining your goals for our work together.

  • Sessions are scheduled to last about 50 minutes. If you are interested in shorter or longer sessions, contact us to discuss availability and pricing.

  • Metamorphosis has therapists who are in network with:

    • Aetna commercial plans

    • Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Highmark) commercial plans

    • Optum commercial plans

    • United Healthcare commercial plans

  • Payment is charged to your debit/credit/HSA/FSA card on file at the time of your session.

  • Metamorphosis is not in network with any Medicaid or Medicare plans.

  • If we are not in network with your insurance plan, ask your plan about your out-of-network benefits. We are happy to provide a superbill to help you utilize these benefits. See here for more details.

How do I use the client portal?

Do you provide custody recommendations, or work with clients/parents on legal determinations for custody?

At Metamorphosis Counseling, we provide mental health therapy to support our clients’ emotional and psychological wellbeing. Sometimes, our clients and/or their parents/guardians come to us as a result of a contentious separation, divorce, or custody dispute. While we understand that the difficulties handling family dynamics along with legal situations can be complex and challenging, we are unable to assist with the legal determination of custody, including making custody recommendations, providing statements of judgment regarding a minor clients’ mental health in relation to custody, or testifying in court regarding custody matters, as this is outside of our scope of practice.

We are happy to assist you and your minor child to cope with the stress of your family legal matter through therapy and counseling. However, if you require a custody evaluation, mediation, or related services, we recommend seeking a professional in that area, such as a forensic psychologist, custody mediator, or attorney specializing in family law. Custody evaluations are conducted by professionals with very specific (and necessary!) training and qualifications, ensuring a neutral and comprehensive assessment of the situation.
