Who Am I?
Hello! I’m Erin Van Iderstine (she/her/hers). I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) dedicated to helping kids, teens, young adults, and their families navigate the big stuff that life throws their way. I bring warmth and energy to the therapy room, creating a space that feels bright and hopeful, even when we are tackling heavy topics.
I love working with:
Kids and teens: For young people, I specialize in turning the sometimes scary, sometimes annoying concept of “therapy” into an empowering, engaging experience where they feel safe to be themselves. Whether your kid is coping with a major change, such as separation/divorce, a recent move, or a new sibling (just to name a few), or has gone through some intense things at a young age, I’m here to support them and you through the process of healing.
The family system: I partner closely with the parents of kids and teens, providing the support and tools needed to help the entire household shift from survival mode back into joy and connection.
Adult trauma survivors: Adults who are ready to process difficult or scary life events so that their past no longer dictates their present.
Holistic therapy seekers: Anyone interested in a “whole body” approach - exploring how lifestyle factors and physical wellness can be used as powerful tools for mental clarity.
How I help
I believe that humans are complex, and that we need to treat the whole person in order for your mental health to be well. I utilize evidence-based methods of treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and progressive counting for trauma - but my bread and butter is helping you find out of the box ways to improve your coping toolbox. Creative art expression, body movement, and somatic therapies are where I thrive, and where clients find what they’re looking for.
When I work with kids and teens, I work closely with their parents/guardians to ensure that the whole family is on the same page for their child’s best interests. I believe strongly in the support of a family when a kid is struggling.
I am trained in Progressive Counting (PC), a specialized, trauma-informed treatment that is similar to EMDR and just as remarkably effective. PC helps the brain "digest" painful memories relatively quickly, allowing you to move forward without having to spend years re-living the details.
My approach is grounded in the belief that behavior is a form of communication. For my adult clients, we look at the patterns that no longer serve you. For parents, I help you understand the "why" behind your child's behavior, shifting the perspective from frustration to healing. By addressing the nervous system, nutrition, and emotional processing together, we create a sustainable path toward resilience.
What it’s like in a session with me
In a session with me, you can expect a mix of warmth, movement, and genuine "spark." I’m not a passive observer; I am an active, encouraging partner in your journey.
When working with kids, I use play, creativity, and energy to make sense of big feelings. I work collaboratively with parents to give you practical strategies to support your child’s growth at home.
My adult clients love my use of directness, empathy, and evidence-based skills to untangle from the past.
No matter your age, you can expect a non-judgmental space where your wins are celebrated and your struggles are met with deep, professional compassion.
More about me
When I’m not in the office, I love to spend time with my kids and family, ski, and be a BMX mom. I enjoy being outdoors and experiencing nature for all it has to offer!
